Deductions
Deductions
Deductions are amounts you can subtract from your income. They reduce your taxable income, meaning they reduce the income on which you calculate your income tax payable.
For example, some deductions are related to employment (such as the deduction for employment expenses of salaried employees and employees who earn commissions), while others are granted to encourage you to save for retirement (such as the RRSP deduction).
In all cases, you must meet the eligibility requirements.
