A person who is an Indian within the meaning of the Indian Act (federal statute), that is, an individual who is registered as an Indian with Indigenous Services Canada or is entitled to be so registered.


We understand that many members of Canada's First Nations prefer not to be referred to as Indians. We use the term only within the legal meaning given to it under the Indian Act.
