Sending Prescribed Information
If you're subject to mandatory billing measures and are registered for the QST, you must send us prescribed information using a certified sales recording system (SRS) if you make taxable supplies covered by the measures.
You must send us the prescribed information immediately after the information is known or generally at the end of a trip for a remunerated passenger transportation service.
If you operate a restaurant establishment, you must also send us the prescribed information without delay after the information becomes known if:
- you adjust the amount of a taxable supply for a customer
- you refund a customer an amount on taxable supplies or charge it to their account
These two obligations also apply to the remunerated passenger transportation sector as of January 1, 2026.
Restaurant sector: end of the shift to WEB-SRM
As a restaurant establishment operator subject to mandatory billing measures, you're required to send us your transaction data using a certified sales recording system (SRS) designed to communicate with the WEB-SRM and give every customer a bill produced using that SRS.
Remunerated passenger transportation sector: Second-generation certified SRS
Due to legislative and regulatory amendments respecting the use of SRSs in the remunerated passenger transportation sector, you will have to use a second-generation certified SRS as of January 1, 2026, to meet your mandatory billing obligations.
Please contact your SRS developer now about updating your SRS so you can continue meeting your mandatory billing obligations.
You must also send us any cancellation of a temporary bill or an estimate, or any revision or correction of a transaction. If you abort a transaction while entering it, you must still send us the transaction with the prescribed information already entered. You must send us all changes you made to a transaction, before the bill or credit note for the transaction is given to the customer.
In general, you must send us the prescribed information on the bill or credit note you produce, as well as other information not shown on the bill.
Most of the information that must appear on the bill or be sent to us is automatically provided by your certified SRS.
To find out more about the information you have to send us, see the web pages below. Note that you may have to enter certain information in your SRS manually.
If you want, you can send us information about a supply not covered by the mandatory billing measures.
Communication problems
If your SRS cannot send us transactions containing the prescribed information for reasons beyond your control, you can still continue your activities, such as giving customers bills. The transactions will automatically be stored in the SRS and sent in a batch when the connection is re-established and one of the following occurs:
- a new transaction is successfully sent to us
- transactions recorded when no connection was available are sent manually
- the user's session is ended correctly
If transaction data was not sent to us because of communication problems, you must ensure that the data is sent within 48 hours. Contact us if you cannot meet this deadline.
If a batch of transaction data contain errors, the error messages can only be viewed in My Account for businesses. So it's important to consult My Account for businesses regularly.
If you produce a bill or credit note while the SRS is having problems communicating with the WEB-SRM, it will not show the processing time and transaction number. In this case, the bill or credit note must state “PROBLÈME DE COMMUNICATION.”
You must still give the customer the bill or credit note containing all the other prescribed information.
