Changes During the Year: Advance Payments of the Tax Credit for Childcare Expenses
Any change in your or a family member's situation could affect the amount of your advance payments of the tax credit for childcare expenses.
You must inform us promptly if you no longer meet the eligibility requirements (for example, you no longer have custody of a child or you lost your job).
Other changes in situation
You must also inform us if:
- you have a new spouse or ended your conjugal relationship
- your income was different than expected
- your child began kindergarten or is now in subsidized daycare
- your child began attending a new unsubsidized daycare
- the daycare terms changed (e.g. rate or number of days of care)
How to notify us of a change
There are two ways you can inform us of a change after filing an application for advance payments of the tax credit for childcare expenses for a given year.
Online
The easiest, fastest and greenest way to inform us of any change is by using the online service for managing your advance payment file in My Account for individuals.
By mail
Complete and mail us form TPZ-1029.8.F.C-V, Notice of Change in Situation: Advance Payments of the Tax Credit for Childcare Expenses.
Deadline for notifying us of a change
You must file your application online or mail it by November 15, 2026. If the change relates to a childcare service provider, the number of days of childcare during the year or the childcare fees, you must enclose form TPZ-1029.8.F.A-V, Childcare Expenses Qualifying for the Tax Credit: Fees and Number of Days of Care, duly completed by the childcare service provider or that person's representative.
You may be required to repay your advance payments if you no longer meet the requirements for claiming the tax credit for childcare expenses or if your situation changed during the year. Moreover, if you received advance payments during the year but no longer reside in Québec at the end of the year (on December 31), you still have to file an income tax return.
