Changes in Your Situation During the Year
We process your shelter allowance application based on the information it contains. You must inform us quickly of changes in your situation.
The following situations can change your eligibility or the amount of your payments:
- The details of your dwelling change (there is a change in your rent, in the services it includes, in your mortgage interest, your municipal taxes or your school taxes [if you own your dwelling], your dwelling becomes subsidized, etc.).
- You and your spouse separate or you have a new spouse.
- Your spouse dies.
- The number of people who share housing costs changes.
- You leave Québec or come back to live here.
- You are confined to a prison or similar institution.
If any of these situations occur between the time you send us the application and September 30, 2026, you must inform us immediately in one of these ways:
By mail
Send us a letter in which you:
- give your name, social insurance or identification number and full address;
- mention the shelter allowance program and the period in question (for example, the period from October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026); and
- explain the change in your situation.
Sign the letter and send it and the required documents (see page 4 of form LEX-165-V) to the following address:
