Receiving Documents Online Only
You can choose to receive documents online only instead of by mail. This includes your notices of assessment and other documents that can be sent to you in My Account for individuals, such as documents concerning your income tax return and benefits.
How it works
When you give your consent, your documents are sent to your My Account inbox only. For example, even if you have a balance due, you won't get your notice of assessment in the mail.
Your consent is valid until you revoke it.
How to start receiving your documents online only
To receive your documents online only, you have to give your consent in one of the following ways:
- accepting the new conditions for use for My Account for individuals
- changing your preferences in My Account
- completing lines 10.1 and 10.2 on your income tax return
- filing form TP-1000.TE-V, Online Filing of the Personal Income Tax Return by an Accredited Person
- contacting us
The conditions for use for My Account for individuals were updated in September 2026. By accepting them, you agree to automatically receive your documents online only. You can unsubscribe if you wish.
How this protects your confidential information
When you receive a document in My Account, we'll notify you by email. The email doesn't contain any personal information—it simply tells you that a document is available.
To view the document, you have to sign in to My Account. This protects your confidential information and eliminates the risk related to sending it by email.
How to change your communication preferences
You can change your communication preferences:
- in your My Account profile
- by contacting us
If you withdraw your consent to receive documents online only, you'll receive them by mail.
