Alerts
How it works
You can choose to receive alerts by email and/or text message. To protect you against phishing, our emails and texts never contain links.
The conditions for use for My Account for individuals were updated in September 2026. By accepting them, you agree to automatically receive your documents online only. You can unsubscribe if you wish.
When are alerts sent?
We may send you an alert if:
- A change is made to your personal (including banking) information.
- We detect abnormal activity in your file.
How to sign up
You can sign up for alerts:
- by checking box 10.3, 10.4 or 10.5 on your income tax return
- in My Account for individuals
- by contacting us
You will stay subscribed to alerts until you unsubscribe.
Alerts are sent to the email or cell number on file. Make sure your contact information in My Account is up to date.
Email and text alerts are free. However, charges may apply depending on your mobile plan.
Changed your mind?
You can unsubscribe from alerts or change your preference (email and/or text) at any time in My Account or by contacting us. You will get one final confirmation message.
If you call us, you will need your social insurance number and two of the following recent documents to confirm your identity:
- a notice of assessment or determination
- an account statement
- another document we sent you
If you unsubscribe from email and text alerts and there is a security incident concerning your confidential information, we will notify you by mail or phone.
Important messages in your inbox
If you received a notification about an important message in your secure inbox, you can view the message in two ways:
- Log in to My Account for individuals.
- Contact us.
Confidentiality
Protecting the confidentiality of your information is very important to us. We go to great lengths to make sure that our communications are secure. Online communications containing personal information or documents are only sent to your secure My Account inbox. To learn more, see Receiving Documents Online Only.
Alerts help us fight widespread online fraud. Notifying you of unusual activity in your file is one more way we protect your confidential information.
