What Are RL Slips?
RL slips are official receipts that you receive annually. They are used to determine the amount of your income and the deductions and tax credits you can claim for a taxation year. There are various types of RL slips, but the main ones are as follows:
RL-1
This slip is generally issued by an employer. It indicates employment income, as well as source deductions of income tax, contributions and premiums.
RL-5
This slip is issued by organizations. It indicates indemnities and benefits, such as social assistance payments from the Ministère du Travail, de l'Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale.
RL-8
This slip is issued by an educational institution. It indicates the amount for post-secondary studies that an individual can claim for a dependent child attending the institution.
RL-31
This slip is issued by the owner of an eligible dwelling. It allows eligible tenants and subtenants to receive the housing component of the solidarity tax credit.
RL-32
This RL slip is issued by a financial institution. It indicates taxable amounts allocated or taxable payments made to holders or beneficiaries of a tax-free first home savings account.
