Products not normally identified as foods or beverages in Canada but consumed as such by specific ethnic groups are considered basic groceries (and are therefore zero-rated) if the foods or beverages are consumed as basic grocery items, unless the items are included as taxable foods or beverages in the Taxable Groceries section.
