Increase in the Tax on Lodging in Four Tourism Regions

Effective February 1, 2013, the $2 tax on lodging is replaced by

  • the $3 tax per overnight stay, in the Lanaudière, Mauricie and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean tourism regions;
  • the 3% tax per overnight stay, in the Charlevoix tourism region.

In the Lanaudière, Mauricie and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean tourism regions, the $3 tax per overnight stay applies to the supply of an accommodation unit that is billed and occupied after January 31, 2013.

In the Charlevoix tourism region, the 3% tax per overnight stay applies to the supply of an accommodation unit that is billed and occupied after January 31, 2013. However, the $3 tax per overnight stay applies where the tax is being billed to a person purchasing the accommodation unit to supply it to another party.
