In the Budget Speech delivered on March 30, 2010, the Minister of Finance announced that the QST credit, the property tax refund and the credit for individuals living in northern villages would be replaced by a single refundable tax credit called the solidarity tax credit.

The first payment under this new tax credit will be in July 2011.
