Fuel Tax Increase in the Area of Jurisdiction of the Agence Métropolitaine de Transport (AMT)

The Ministère des Finances today announced a fuel tax increase of $0.015 per litre of gasoline delivered in the area of jurisdiction of the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT).

The increase comes into effect at 12:01 a.m. on May 1, 2010. It will not apply to gasoline that vendors located in the area of jurisdiction of the AMT have in stock at midnight on April 30, 2010, and in respect of which tax was or should have been collected in advance. Accordingly, taking of inventory will not be necessary.

The area of jurisdiction of the AMT is the territory of the municipalities of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal, of Ville de Saint-Jérôme and of the Kahnawake Indian Reserve.
