New Fuel Tax Measure Effective April 1, 2010

The Minister of Finance announced a fuel tax increase of $0.01 per litre of gasoline or non-coloured fuel oil (such as diesel and biodiesel). The increase comes into effect at 12:01 a.m. on April 1, 2010.

Vendors who sell fuel on which the fuel tax was or should have been collected in advance must inventory the quantity of fuel they have in stock at 12:01 a.m. on April 1, 2010. They must then remit, by April 30, 2010, an amount that corresponds to the difference between tax at the new applicable rates and tax at the rates applicable before April 1, 2010.

A form with a remittance slip will be mailed to these vendors at the beginning of April 2010. Retail dealers will receive form CAZ-14.1-V, Fuel Stock Inventory at 12:01 a.m. on April 1, 2010 (Retail Dealers), and collection officers will receive form CAZ-14.1.P-V, Fuel Stock Inventory at 12:01 a.m. on April 1, 2010 (Collection Officers).
