Everything you need to know to report your securities transactions
If you made securities transactions last year, such as sales of public corporation shares, mutual fund units, bonds or other investments (linked notes, derivative products, etc.), be sure to meet your tax obligations by reporting the transactions in your income tax return. Individuals in business, corporations, partnerships and trusts are also required to report securities transitions made during the year.
If you are in this situation, your financial institution or securities dealer will send you one of the following:
- a consolidated T5008/RL-18 form showing all securities transactions;
- a single RL-18 form for each securities transaction made.
Note that:
- you have to report all of your securities transactions, even if the amount of the transactions is nil or negative;
- the transactions to be reported will be presented starting on page 3, if you receive a consolidated T5008/RL-18 form.
For more information on the consolidated T5008/RL-18 form and how to meet your tax obligations, visit the new information page.
