Advance Payments of the Tax Credit for Childcare Expenses

A bit of help for your family. Apply now for 2023!

Have a child attending unsubsidized daycare in 2023? Want to receive advance payments of the tax credit for childcare expenses? Now's the time to apply for next year!

If you apply by December 1, 2022, you'll be able to get 12 monthly advance payments starting in January 2023. Applying after that date won't affect your credit for the year—it'll just be spread out over the months that remain after we process your application. We usually determine the amount of your advance payments within 45 days of receiving your application.

How to apply

You can apply online quickly and securely using the services in My Account for individuals. If you prefer to apply by mail, you can use the forms on our website.

When you apply, be sure to have the required documents on hand, even if you have filed them in the past. See Applying for Advance Payments of the Tax Credit for Childcare Expenses and Required Documents for more information, including how to help us process your application as quickly as possible.

Take the time to carefully estimate the number of days in the year that your child will spend in childcare and double-check the number of days on form TPZ-1029.8.F.A-VChildcare Expenses Qualifying for the Tax Credit: Fees and Number of Days of Care. For example, a child who attends an unsubsidized daycare centre full-time will go about 260 days in the year. A child starting kindergarten will go to daycare about 170 days in the year.
