Foreign Students: Report Your Tuition and Examination Fees Every Year
It is to your advantage as a foreign student to file an income tax return every year to report your tuition and examination fees, regardless of whether you earned any income.
If you file an income tax return every year, we can calculate the cumulative amount of tuition or examination fees you have paid and record it in your file. Doing so will help you avoid the processing times involved in claiming the tax credit for tuition or examination fees that you have paid since January 1, 1997.
See the tax credit for tuition or examination fees section of our website for eligibility requirements and more information.
Remember that the deadline for filing your 2017 income tax return is April 30, 2018.
