Did you receive a solidarity tax credit payment without applying? More payments could be coming your way!

The solidarity tax credit is a refundable tax credit that helps low- and middle-income families. It is calculated based on your situation as at December 31 of the previous year.

As we announced in November 2019, last-resort financial assistance recipients who did not file their 2018 income tax returns automatically received the basic amount and, if applicable, the spousal amount of the solidarity tax credit's QST component. The retroactive payment covers the period from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020.

You may qualify for additional amounts if you:

  • meet all conditions;
  • file your income tax return for the previous year;
  • file Schedule D with your income tax return.

Use our estimator to see how much you could receive. Please note that your actual payments may differ from the estimated payments.

If you need help completing your income tax return, the Income Tax Assistance – Volunteer Program is available free of charge.
