Mark Your Calendar: December 1 is the Advance Payment Application Deadline

If you are you applying for advance payments of the tax credit for childcare expenses, the work premium or the adapted work premium, keep in mind that the number of payments you receive depends on when you file your application. To get 12 payments in 2018, you need to apply by December 1, 2017. If you apply after that date, you will receive the same amount for the year, but it will be spread out over the months remaining after we process your application.

Also, in the case of the tax credit for childcare expenses, make sure you estimate the number of days of childcare as closely as possible and account for changes such as one of your children starting preschool.

If you are applying for advance payments of the tax credit for home-support services for seniors, the December 1 deadline also applies—if you miss it, you will have to wait and claim the credit in your 2017 income tax return.
