Parents: Get the Financial Assistance You Are Entitled To!
The child assistance payment provides financial assistance to Québec families with one or more dependent children under 18. The payment is administered by Retraite Québec, the government department that was created by merging the Régie des rentes du Québec and the Commission administrative des régimes de retraite et d'assurances.
Income tax return
Since the child assistance payment is based on family income, both parents must file an income tax return every year to receive it, even if they had no income.
The deadline for filing the 2015 income tax return is May 2, 2016. If either parent carried on a business or earned income as a person responsible for a family-type resource or an intermediate resource, the deadline is extended to June 15.
See the Retraite Québec website for more information about the child assistance payment, including the eligibility criteria.
