Mining Tax: Now Handled by Revenu Québec
Revenu Québec is now responsible for administering the Mining Tax Act, a responsibility formerly held by the Ministère de l'Énergie et des Ressources naturelles (MERN). This change means that all mine operators required to file a mining tax return must now do so with Revenu Québec, which already administers the Taxation Act and other Québec tax legislation.
Quality service for mine operators
To ensure that knowledge is transferred from the MERN to Revenu Québec as efficiently as possible, we have created a new department to process mining tax returns, which is staffed by most of the employees formerly responsible for processing the returns at the MERN.
As a result of the change, mine operators' eligibility for tax credits will now be determined exclusively by Revenu Québec. In addition, mine operators now have a single point of access for communicating with the government about all tax-related matters, and all relevant tax information is available from a single source—our website.
For more information, see the new Mining Tax section of our website.
