With our assistance program, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and the newly self-employed can get free help starting up or understanding their rights and tax obligations. SMBs, for example, can learn about corporate income tax and other taxes, source deductions and requirements for supporting documents. Self-employed individuals can get help with filing their income tax returns, deducting business expenses, managing documents and handling their obligations as an employer.
Meetings can take place individually or in groups by phone or videoconference.
Participation is optional, and meetings are strictly confidential. Nothing you discuss will be used for audit purposes or otherwise.
The program is for new SMBs and self-employed individuals who are just getting started in business.
To help them benefit fully from the program, we recommend that SMBs register with us before scheduling a meeting.
The program will give you the tools you need to identify and correct common mistakes when filing your returns. It will also help you:
- understand your rights and obligations;
- learn more about tax credits, refunds and rebates;
- sign up for and use our online services;
- find answers to your questions;
- get feedback on your books and accounting records (optional).
Our services complement those offered by a professional representative such as an accountant.
