At Revenu Québec, part of our mission is to collect income tax and consumption taxes, thereby ensuring that all taxpayers pay their fair share toward financing Québec's public services. To that end, we also help taxpayers exercise their rights while fulfilling their tax obligations.
To make sure that tax laws are being respected, we regularly conduct tax audits.
The fact that an auditor has contacted you does not necessarily mean that you have failed to fulfill your tax obligations.
For more information, see the Charter of Taxpayers' and Mandataries' Rights.
Our approach toward all of our tax audits is characterized by integrity, fairness and respect.
More specifically, we do not set quotas, nor do we pay bonuses to auditors (or any of our other employees) based on the amounts they recover. Such practices would be contrary to our code of conduct.
We measure the performance of our tax auditors based on their efficiency. We expect our tax auditors to:
- respect organizational policy and work procedures;
- apply tax legislation rigorously; and
- make appropriate and fair decisions.
