Power of attorney or authorization

You can authorize a person (such as your spouse or an accountant) to represent you or obtain information on your behalf. If you want us to transmit information concerning your income tax return to a designated third party, you can:

  • use the online service in My Account for individuals for granting an authorization or a power of attorney; or
  • complete and sign form MR-69-V, Authorization to Communicate Information or Power of Attorney.

An authorization or a power of attorney is valid indefinitely, unless you provide an end date in the online service or the form.

You can also view the authorizations or the powers of attorney you have granted in My Account.

Revocation

If you want to revoke an authorization or power of attorney, you can:

  • use the online service in My Account for individuals for viewing or revoking an authorization or a power of attorney; or
  • complete form MR-69.R-V, Revocation of Authorization to Communicate Information or of Power of Attorney.

Downloading your tax data

To download your tax data using authorized software, your tax preparer must have a valid power of attorney or use your download code. You can get a code in one of the following ways:
