422 – Tax credit for Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins shares

You can claim the following tax credits on this line:

  • the tax credit for the acquisition of Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins shares;
  • the tax credit for the exchange of Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins shares.

You cannot carry forward the portion of either credit that you are not claiming in 2018.

Important

You are not entitled to either credit if:

  • you requested that Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins redeem shares that you acquired after February 28, 2018; or
  • before March 1, 2019, Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins redeemed or purchased shares that you acquired before March 1, 2018, and for which you were entitled to a tax credit for a year prior to 2018.

Tax credit for the exchange of Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins shares

You can claim this credit if you were resident in Québec on December 31, 2018, and, between March 1, 2018, and February 28, 2019, you acquired shares in the new class of Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins shares by exchanging shares of the former class that you held for at least seven years. Note that if you undertook to irrevocably make the exchange but could not acquire shares in the new class during the above-mentioned period, you can still claim the tax credit (provided you meet the other conditions).

Your credit is shown in box D of your RL-26 slip.

Note

If you are entitled to both tax credits, add the amounts in box B and box D of your RL‑26 slip and enter the total on line 422.

Special tax related to the redemption of Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins shares

If you claim a tax credit on line 422 of your return and, in a future year, you redeem Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins shares that you held for fewer than seven years, a portion of the tax credit you obtained will be recovered.
