Revenu Québec announces that individuals can now start filing their income tax returns online
Québec City, February 20, 2017. – Revenu Québec wishes to inform individuals and tax preparers that they can now file income tax returns prepared using authorized software online through NetFile Québec.
In 2015, a record 5.3 million returns were filed online.
Among the many advantages of using the service are significantly faster processing times—a notice of assessment or refund is typically issued within 14 days of a return being filed online, whereas a return filed on paper can take up to 28 days to process.
Since the regular April 30 filing deadline falls on a Sunday this year, individuals have until midnight on May 1, 2017, to file their income tax return and make any related payment. However, individuals reporting business income have until June 15 to file, as do their spouses. Any balance owing must nonetheless be paid by May 1.
Four ways to get a download code
Tax preparers need a download code to download their clients' tax data. Individuals can get the code for their preparer either online, using the Get Your Download Code online service or My Account for individuals, or by calling the automated telephone service available at 1 888 811-7362 or Revenu Québec's client services.
Any individual who, on December 31, owned a residential building and leased an eligible dwelling to an individual must file an RL-31 slip in respect of the dwelling. One copy of the slip must be sent to Revenu Québec and another to every tenant or subtenant of the dwelling on December 31, 2016.
Tenants and subtenants need to enter the information on the slip in Schedule D in order to receive the housing component of the solidarity tax credit for themselves or their spouses.
