International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA)

If you provide interprovincial or international passenger or goods transportation services, Québec's participation in the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) reduces your paperwork.

For example, you are no longer required to file fuel tax returns with each province (This link will open a new window) or state (This link will open a new window) that is an IFTA member.

Filing fuel tax returns

You are required to file a single return for each quarter, along with your payment of the balance due or your refund claim, as applicable.

We then contact the member jurisdictions concerned in order to proceed with the necessary administrative adjustments.

Mandatory licence and decals

If you wish to operate in member jurisdictions, you must complete and file an Application for a Licence and Decals (form CA-500-V).

Carriers of bulk fuel may be subject to special rules, both in Québec and in other member jurisdictions. For further information, contact the IFTA authorities in the jurisdiction concerned.
