Taxable Insurance Premiums

The tax on insurance premiums applies to most insurance contracts for which premiums are payable. Among other types of insurance contracts, the tax applies to:  

• damage insurance
• group insurance of persons

A person must pay tax on insurance premiums if one of the following applies:

• The person resides in Québec.
• The person carries on a business in Québec.
• The person has an insurance policy covering property located in Québec.
