Registering for the Tax on Insurance Premiums

If you collect insurance premiums that are subject to the tax on insurance premiums, you must collect the tax and remit it to your insurer or to Revenu Québec, as applicable. If you are required to remit the tax to Revenu Québec, you must register for the tax on insurance premiums before collecting the tax for the first time.

To register for the tax on insurance premiums, complete form LM-1-V, Application for Registration, or use the Registering for Revenu Québec Files online service.

Automobile replacement insurance

Distributors authorized under the Act respecting the distribution of financial products and services must be registered for the tax on insurance premiums. In general, these distributors are car dealers and insurance brokers that offer automobile replacement insurance to their clients.
