Specific duty on new tires

A specific duty is added to the price of new road vehicle tires (excluding retreaded and remoulded tires) with the following dimensions:

• rim diameter no larger than 62.23 centimetres (24.5 inches)
• overall diameter no larger than 123.19 centimetres (48.5 inches)

The specific duty is $3 per tire.

This duty applies to:

• new tires you buy at retail or bring into the province
• new tires on a designated road vehicle (This link will open a new window) that you buy or lease on a long-term basis (12 months or more) in Québec

This duty also applies to:

• new tires you buy outside Québec for use in Québec
• new tires on a road vehicles that you buy or lease on a long-term basis outside Québec for use in Québec

Purpose of the duty

The specific duty is designed to finance the Programme québécois de gestion intégrée des pneus hors d'usage, a program for the integrated management of scrap tires administered by RECYC-QUÉBEC.
