Advance Payments of the Tax Credit for Home-Support Services for Seniors

You can apply to receive advance payments of the tax credit for home-support services for seniors for the 2017 taxation year. That way you will not have to wait until you file your income tax return to claim the tax credit.

You have until December 1 of a given year to apply for advance payments. If you do not apply on or before that date, you will have to wait until you file your income tax return to claim the tax credit.

The amount of the tax credit remains the same whether you choose to apply for advance payments or to claim the tax credit when you file your income tax return.

Advance payments are made only by direct deposit. Advance payments related to eligible services included in your rent or condominium fees are made every month.  Advance payments related to eligible services not included in your rent or condominium fees are made within 30 days following the date we receive the application.

What if you and your spouse are entitled to the tax credit?

If you have a spouse (This link will open a new window) and you are both eligible for the tax credit, only one of you will receive advance payments for the amounts to which you are entitled as a couple.

If you and your spouse live in the same dwelling, you must file a single form for the couple.

If your spouse does not live in the same dwelling as you, you must each file a separate form.

We process applications received from each spouse as if they were part of one file. We will communicate with the spouse who is to receive the advance payments of the tax credit.

Keeping invoices

Do not enclose any invoices, receipts or service contracts with the application. Keep those documents for six years, as you will need them to complete your income tax return, and we may ask for them at a later date.
