Responsibilities of the Minister
The Minister is responsible for ensuring that Revenu Québec fulfils the mandate with which it has been entrusted:
- see to the collection of income tax and consumption taxes, while ensuring that each person pays a fair share of the financing of public services;
- administer the support-payment collection program to ensure that children and custodial parents receive the regular support payments to which they are entitled;
- administer taxation-related social programs, and any other tax-collection and redistribution program entrusted to it by the government;
- ensure provisional administration of unclaimed property and liquidation of that property in order pay out the value to assigns (persons in whom a property right is vested), or, failing that, to the Minister of Finance;
- see to the provisional administration of unclaimed property and the liquidation of such property to remit the value thereof to the interested parties or, where there is no interested party, to the Minister of Finance;
- keep a public register of the businesses that carry on activities in Québec and administer the system governing the existence of legal persons in Québec in order to help protect the public and businesses;
- make recommendations to the government concerning fiscal policy and programs.
In addition, the Minister oversees the application, in whole or in part, of the various laws administered by Revenu Québec.
